Business Writing Coaching
Build your brand with business writing coaching with Lynda McDaniel. One-on-one coaching sessions are a fast—and, yes, even fun—way to boost your confidence, your career, and your results.
Lynda answers some FAQs about how her coaching works:
Q: How can I get the attention I need when we live miles apart?
A: Good news! The coaching process actually works better via e-mail and telephone (rather than in person). Let’s face it—no one enjoys criticism, even when it’s gently and thoughtfully presented. By sending you encouragement and critiques via e-mail, you have time to absorb the comments. When we follow up later with a telephone call, we can discuss how you want to deal with the suggested changes. Oh, and we can work on the documents together via my webinar platform so you can see changes as I make them.
Q: What kind of business writing can we work on?
A: Everything. From e-mail and blogs to books and proposals—and everything in between like articles, white papers, reports, and e-books. Check out our Grab ‘N’ Go Webinars—we can cover all those topics and even more great writing tips and tricks of the trade.
Q: Why do I need a writing coach? I was pretty good in English during school.
A: I bet you were, but maybe that was a while ago. Or maybe you didn’t learn the writing process. (Most of us didn’t.) We’re taught grammar and punctuation in school, but not the writing process. That’s like teaching carpenters all about lumber and hammers, but not teaching them how to build a house! The writing process is messy, and that’s where we get into trouble. We think our first drafts should be perfect. (I, too, am a recovering perfectionist who thought my first drafts should be brilliant.)
If you could see the early drafts of professional writers, writers you love to read, you’d be amazed at how scratched through and heavily edited they are. This is simply the writing process. You’ll often hear me say, “Good writing is really good editing. Bad writers just stopped too soon.”
“Oh, Lynda: This was terrific! Exactly what I was looking for. Wow – a huge weight has been
lifted from my shoulders. [Our work together] is a must for my future projects and personal work.”
—Dr. Katherine A. Hart, Ed.D., ClearVision Consulting, Alameda, Calif.

Q: What makes you qualified to help me?
A: I’ve been writing for 25+ years, including 1,000 articles for major publications and a dozen books, including my award-winning Words at Work. That means I understand your frustrations, your concerns—I’ve had every one of them! I know the pain of knowing what I want to write—but struggling to get the right words down. I can show you how to write faster—easy techniques that double your writing speed—and then how to polish your words until they sing. You’ll overcome any lingering fears and self-doubt so you can write books that will make you a leader in your field, proposals that seal the deal, and blogs and articles that grab attention, build your brand, and increase traffic to your website.
“Catch the spirit in this book and follow the suggestions. I guarantee your
writing will improve and you’ll be a happier communicator.”
—Thomas Moore, best-selling author of Care of the Soul
Q: What will I get out of writing coaching?
A: You (or your staff) will enjoy personal, private attention. Together, through telephone and e-mail discussions, we’ll run off those prissy teachers or bully bosses who made you worry about every word you wrote. You’ll quickly learn how to dismiss those inner critics, build on your strengths, add creative touches (to keep your readers reading) and start writing like the professional you are. And I’ll teach you how to edit like a pro (which, again, is more important than writing).
I have an uncanny ability to see your unique potential. I believe in you and know you can write anything from a 300-word blog to a 30,000-word book. So I’ll encourage you—but not at the expense of quality. To make sure you finish with a worthy product, I’ll gently guide and instruct you too.
Q: Do you assign a lot of homework?
A: No! You’ll work on business documents you are already writing for work (our clients are too busy for homework!) to practice kick-start techniques that end procrastination and increase confidence. You’ll learn how to craft an attention-grabbing beginning, an information-packed middle, and a compelling ending. Along the way, you’ll find your distinctive writing voice and style while learning to use powerful tools of effective communication.
